If you just landed a VA or Executive Assistant Role? Read this first.
Getting a remote job is hard, but keeping it takes intentional effort.
One of the biggest mistakes new Virtual Assistants or Executive Assistants make is jumping into tasks without first understanding their role and that’s how people get dropped 2 weeks or a month into the job.
Here’s what you must do once you land that role:
Understand your client.
Learn their communication style, preferences, and how they like things done. It helps you deliver faster and build trust.
Learn how they track tasks.
Whether it’s WhatsApp, Asana, Trello, or ClickUp, get familiar and set things up properly. These tools help your client measure success.
Define what success means.
Don’t assume, ask your client, “What does success look like in this role for you?” That clarity keeps you aligned and productive.
Know their priorities and goals.
Every client is different. Find out what’s most important to them daily and tailor your work accordingly.
Communicate like a pro. Send daily check-ins or weekly summaries, show that you’re organized, reliable, and result-driven.
Automate repetitive tasks.
Use tools like Zapier, Notion, or Google Forms to simplify your workflow and avoid burnout.
That’s how you stay valuable, consistent, and irreplaceable.
Remember excellence isn’t in doing everything, it’s in doing the right things well.
